PSS #13
Humidity Control - Pool Room - Covers and Turbine.
0%
Description
Mold growing on the new drywall we JUST textured - place getting to wet - damaging walls, doors and ceilings (and the ceiling above the pool was just textured this past summer right before our purchase)
We did spend 2k on AC/Dehumidifier just few months ago - works - but I had Mike turn off because it didn't seem to do much - a Andrew screwup... 2k down the toilet in my opinion.
We could put turbines to vent out the air, the same type we put at our "Fountain Attic" - but it is too cold to be doing that right now. I still have another turbine (free of course) and would lift the excess hot/wet air so that it doesn't damage the ceiling. I think we should still have steve do this once weather gets better.
The old owners use to put one of those industrial fans used to dry carpet - stick it in the window - but that was loud, ugly and simply blew out all that nice warm air outside. It wasn't energy efficient and frankly, didn't work all that well.
The solution I would push for, and something Candice brought up, is pool cover. I do believe that is the best alternative. An insulated cover for the spa - we might very well find one on offer up type location. Be great if we could find an insulated one for the pool as well, but unlikely. But just the act of covering the pool will prevent all that moisture from escaping. It needs to be a solution we can do quickly, daily. Will be a lot of extra work, covering it every night, but I don't see a more effective solution.
Candice - go ahead and work with Angelie to get quotes. Get a list of possible vendors - one of the first things we will need are dimensions - so candice, please update this ticket w/ the measurements. You can check Offer Up, FB market place, etc - for a used insulated spa cover ... Just keep in mind - whatever we deploy has to be something we can do quickly ... i don't want to be buying a basic pool cover that floats on top of the pool - they are a pain to deploy not to mention a kid could walk on top of it and drown.

So I found this idea at Walmart and iT looks like it would be easy and fast to do every night and it don't look real expensive

I've used these before at my own house ... we have a free form pool - first, the darn things are a pain to fit - which might not be a big deal since we have a basic rectangular pool. But the issue is that they don't really float up to the side like they advertise - and it would be time consuming to pull them into the right position ...they often fold in and a pain to get into position.. we got so sick of ours, we ended up tossing it after two weeks of use and probably why you don't see them around most pool. It is a good concept, but from personal experience, not a good long term solution. It also has safety concerns if a kid was to jump in.
Since i have owned a number of pools, I'll work w/ Angelie to see what be a good fit.
I did find a brand new fully insulated pool cover - a $500 unit selling for $100 because the owner ordered wrong size.. only one issue - it is a 6x6 and we need a 7x5 :(. I am still tempted to buy it.
I'll continue to keep my eyes out. One really cool product I saw late last night, and imagine expensive, is this:

And it is safe enough for kids to run on top of them... if we can find some type of mildew resistent floating material, could probably fashion our own solution, lol.

I'm going to call on this one in the morning just to gather some prices and maybe even some tips and ideas

After Candice sent in the "bubble" solar blanket idea (which I know from personal experience can rip easy), decided to see what other materials might work. Looked at thick PVC Pond Liner (in blue instead of traditional black) - durable, but it is design to flex - so over time, and a $500 expense, it will deform because it is designed to stretch. They also make the clear type liners for commercial greenhouses - but those don't come in big enough sheets.
But think have a solution ... just generic think 12mil tarp - won't stretch. Certainly not as good as PVC pool liner for holding in humidity, but i am hoping it will do a decent enough job since it is suppose to be weatherproof.
WE could combine it with a 18' roller:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08D7K6N2B/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3SCTGZFQG5Y55&th=1
Although it looks cool, I don't think this product is very durable.... not to mention taking up a lot of room. The straps tear apart Just like the solar shield bubble, this product doesn't seem to be built to last.
So unless a different idea comes up, I think will just order the tarp for the pool - and if that works, perhaps we can build a roller type solution like the one above - but something that will actually last instead of a cheap aluminum frame w/ crappy straps.

Sieu, please see these options then I'll ask for a quote for whichever you like. Or do you think these will be too expensive?
